Leaf-star wand Preschool · Craft · 20 min · Adult helps

You need: Cardboard from a cereal box; A few leaves, fresh or dry; White glue; A small paintbrush or a twig; A stick; Tape.

  1. A grown-up cuts a star from the cardboard.
  2. Brush glue over the star. A bundle of twigs makes a fun little "broom."
  3. Press leaf pieces all over the star, a little overlapped.
  4. Tape the stick to the back as a handle.
  5. Let it dry, then wave it and make up a spell.

Pairs well with a witch-and-broom picture book.

Coffee-filter butterfly Preschool · Craft · 20 min · Adult helps

You need: A coffee filter; Washable markers; A spray bottle or a dropper of water; A clothespin or pipe cleaner.

  1. Color the filter with bold dots and lines.
  2. A grown-up sprays or drips a little water on it so the colors spread.
  3. Let it dry flat.
  4. Pinch it in the middle with the clothespin to make wings.
Paper pinwheel Kids · Craft · 15 min

You need: A square of paper; Scissors; A pencil with an eraser; A pushpin or thumbtack; A ruler.

  1. Draw lines from each corner almost to the middle. Cut along the lines.
  2. Pick up every other corner and fold it to the center without creasing.
  3. A grown-up pins the points to the pencil eraser through the center.
  4. Blow on it or run outside and watch it spin.

Pins are sharp. A grown-up does the pinning, then the pin stays hidden behind the paper.

Friendship bracelet Kids · Craft · 40 min

You need: Three or more colors of embroidery thread or yarn; Tape or a clipboard; Scissors.

  1. Cut strands about an arm's length and knot them together at one end. Tape the knot to a table.
  2. Divide into three groups of strands, one color each.
  3. Braid them over and under until the bracelet fits your wrist.
  4. Knot the end and trim the extra.
Paper-plate sun Preschool · Craft · 15 min · Adult helps

You need: A paper plate; Yellow and orange paper; Glue; A crayon.

  1. Color the plate yellow.
  2. Cut paper strips for rays.
  3. Glue the rays around the edge.
  4. Draw a happy face in the middle.
Blackout poetry Teens 13+ · Craft · 25 min

You need: A page from an old newspaper or discarded book; A pencil; A black marker.

  1. Read the page and circle words that catch your eye.
  2. Choose words that can be read in order to make a short poem.
  3. Black out everything else with the marker.
  4. Read your poem aloud and give it a title.

All our homeschool lists:

How this list works. We copy details from each venue's, store's or library's own page and show the date we last checked. Cards marked "Also on our Gray page" are the same listings as on our main Gray page, shown here so you don't have to hunt for them. For discounts we only list stores whose own policy names homeschool teachers, and we note the proof they ask for. Stores can change their rules at the register, so check before you buy. We are not affiliated with any venue or store here.
